1942年8月11日，Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler與George Antheil從美國專利局獲得了名為秘密通信系統(Secret Communications System的)的專利，這個技術後來被稱作展頻技術(Spread Spectrum，專利編號為2,292,387)，最初的開發目的是在提升魚雷的精準度，避免被相同頻率的信號干擾從而使魚雷偏離目標，由於那時候還未發明電晶體以及集成電路，這些防干擾設計要塞入魚雷中很困難而沒有發展下去，然而擴頻技術在後代被應用到眾多無線電通信技術中，例如CDMA(Code Division Multiple Acces，分碼多工存取）、WLAN(Wireless LAN，無線區域網路)、Wi-Fi與藍牙(Bluetooth)都是奠基於展頻技術而來。

終其一生，Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler與George Antheil未因此專利獲得任何一分錢，因為他們沒有開發相關的商業用途而是直接交給了政府而且還需要為此擔負相關的專利維護費。1997年這項專利發明了 56 年後，這兩人的成就才終於獲得電子前線基金會(Electronic Frontier Foundation)榮譽技術獎章的肯定，Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler也因而獲得藍牙之母的封號。

怎麼這麼了不起的女性發明家似乎沒有多少人聽過? 因為Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler的另一個稱號更廣為人知，藝名Hedy Lamarr的她是美國戰前最重要的幾位女星，是的，真的就是有人這麼得天獨厚。
