Flying through dreams. The greatest in flight entertainment I've ever experienced.
In the lead up to a trip home, I had been watching the aurora forecast, and knew that there was supposed to be a G1 magnetic storm the night of my flight. The day before leaving, I reserved a North facing window seat at the rear of the plane accordingly. I expected to see the lights later at night while flying over Manitoba/Ontario, but was happily surprised when they made a strong early appearance. The video begins over Southeastern Alberta just after 8PM local time, and ends near Thunder Bay. The brightest city is Winnipeg.
To capture this timelapse, I extended a tripod and wedged it against the window seat, with the camera lens pressed against the glass. Airplane windows are very prone to reflections, so I blacked out the entire window with a sweater, leaving only the camera monitor showing through the back. Fortunately, I had an entire row to myself to play with cameras, and had another window to stare spellbound out of while reclining back.
