Scatter More Seeds and Increase

“There is one who scatters, and increases yet more. There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself. People curse someone who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come to him. He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.” (Proverbs‬ ‭11:24-28‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

In this world, there is a principle at work, and that is the principle of sowing and reaping: every seed sown and watered eventually produces a harvest.

“While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”” (Genesis‬ ‭8:22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When you give, that is an act of sowing, and it will have an immediate effect of blessing somebody, but it will also produce a harvest for you in due time.

The kind of harvest you reap depends on the type of seed you sow. If you sow a financial seed, you will receive a multiplied harvest of finances.

“Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work. As it is written, “He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.” Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness; you being enriched in everything to all liberality, which produces through us thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:6-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Those who sow generously will reap generously. The apostle Paul confirmed this and encouraged believers to give cheerfully knowing that their gifts go on to bless many people, produce thanksgiving to God, and also abounding grace to the giver.

If we constantly receive but do not give, it will breed the love of possessions, and be detrimental to our own well-being. Hoarding, stinginess, and a scarcity mindset will fester in a person who does not give.

When we step out in faith to worship Jesus through tithing our income and giving as led by the Holy Spirit, we sanctify our hearts from the love of money.

It also has the secondary effect of sowing financial seeds to produce a harvest in our future.

When we give, we are actively putting our trust in the Lord and not in riches. Whenever we give, we can pray for the Lord to multiply our seed for sowing.

As God increases your prosperity and enlarges your coast, get excited about being able to sow even more than before.

I once saw a quote by Mark Batterson, “When God blesses you financially, don’t raise your standard of living. Raise your standard of giving.” This is so succinct and wonderfully true. Covet the privilege of being able to give more.

Material possessions in this world are fun and nice comforts and privileges to have, but nothing beats the honor and joy of sowing into God’s kingdom, sponsoring the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and feeding those in need like widows and orphans, especially those in our household of faith. The rewards for these acts of righteousness will remain forever!

Guard Your Heart with Psalm 91

“I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day; nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes, and see the recompense of the wicked. Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.” (Psalms‬ ‭91:2-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Remember that true protection comes from the Lord. Meditate on the Scriptures and confess them over yourself and your loved ones. Guard your heart from the fear and worry that is being perpetuated by the media.

When you believe and speak God’s word, God’s power is released in that related area of your life. His words are spirit and life, not just inanimate ink on a page.

A refuge is a place that you flee to after being attacked, while a fortress is a place you can preemptively position yourself to be far from the enemy.

Whether you have been attacked or not, Jesus is your source of safety, protection, and healing.

Someone may say, “What about those Christians that got it? So many in that local church got sick. How can God’s promises be true?”

Well, one needs to believe in God’s promises before he will experience it. They do not manifest for a Christian who is unbelieving and stricken by fear.

We do not know their state of mind at the time when they fell sick, and what their local church teaches about God’s protection. Some do not believe in it.

I like that Psalm 91 specifically shows that we can believe God for protection from everything that the world is afraid of nowadays. We do not have to guess God’s will in this case—it is plainly written.

Even if you hear of news about people getting sick in your neighborhood, God’s word remains true: a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

The enemy probably hates it when you believe this. “What makes you think you are so special? Others are dying and in critical condition, and you have the cheek to say that it cannot come near you?”

You are specially protected if you believe in God’s promises. You are a sanctified child of God who has access to His protection by faith. His angels will be mobilized to guard you in all your ways, to destroy every weapon of the enemy near you.

Sometimes, believers who just stumbled and sinned feel unworthy of experiencing God’s protection. They feel like the hedge of protection has been lifted because they sinned and that God does this to teach them a lesson.

That is a false assumption that is not true under the New Covenant of Grace. Committing sin can cause your conscience to accuse you, but we must know that Grace is all about believing in what Jesus has done at the cross.

You can enjoy God’s protection from all manner of harm because Jesus shed His blood to make you forever righteous and favored in God’s sight. Protection is not a reward that you have to earn through good behavior. It is freely given as part of the salvation package—but you must believe in order to enjoy it!

Actionable Steps:

1. Meditate on Psalm 91 today and see which portion of it resonates deeply with you. Keep it in your heart and mutter it with your mouth throughout the week ahead.

2. Include words from Psalm 91 in your daily prayers for your family in the morning. Before everyone sets off for work or school, take time to tune everyone’s heart to be conscious of God’s lavish protection.

3. Look out for anyone you come across that feels unsafe or fearful because of the current situation. Encourage them with promises from Psalm 91 and tell them that Jesus loves them. There is always a good time to plant seeds of the Gospel in people’s hearts.

“Have faith in yourself!” #TheBibleNeverSaidThat

The enemy will want you to have faith in yourself. As long as you are relying on the flesh, you are blocking yourself from receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. You are unable to benefit from Jesus’ finished work at the cross when you have faith in yourself.

Instead, the Bible tells us many times, in many ways, to have faith in God.

Those who trust in themselves find that their strength is limited. On the other hand, when you trust in our unlimited God, you can draw from the infinite source of all goodness, wisdom, and power.

He who spared not His only begotten Son, how shall He not with Christ, freely give us all other good things?

Instead of coming to the end of your own strength at the most inconvenient times, always rely on God’s Grace from the beginning of every task.

Prayer is not a last resort—it is your greatest advantage.

Instead of having faith in myself, I would rather say, “I have no confidence at all in my flesh. Abba God, I rely completely on Your grace to carry me through. You have made me more than a conqueror in Christ, and I can overcome all challenges that are in my way!”
