Truth about long lean muscles.

In order to strengthen ( build) muscles, we need to contract them ( squeeze, a force that causes muscles to shorten ). And when we want to gain #Flexibilty , we stretch ( push out ) to lengthen the muscles. In yoga, they both happen at the same time, push and pull, shorten and lengthen, sounds like an #Oxymoron , eh?

Let's say, in #HalfMoonPose , while you're pushing hard to one side to stretch ( lengthen ), the other side will be squeezing really tight, and your core will be activated, with firm legs to prevent you from tipping over. So the harder you push to stretch, the stronger you'll have to squeeze that core to seek stability, it's a constant Tug of War inside you.

Note: Unless I'm sleeping, my core is activated at all times, when I stand, when I sit, 24/7 !!

When you find the perfect balance between that #force and #surrendering, you'll become strong and flexible. It took me years and years of practice to finally realize the importance of that beautiful #Harmony . And the most important lesson I've learned from it, whether in yoga practice or in life is, KEEPING EVERYTHING IN PERSPECTIVE, #physically and #mentally , #Namaste 🙏.
