1.
The date of Lunar New Year varies every year. Lunar New Year festival lasts for 15 days and ends on the Lantern Festival. At midnight on New Year’s Eve, every door and window in the house is opened to let the old year leave. (每年農曆新年的日期都不一樣。整個新年共十五天,最後一天是元宵節,在除夕夜時,家中的門窗都要敞開,讓舊的一年離開家裡。)
2.
Traditionally, children are given red envelopes with “lucky money” inside. Nowadays, many people send money electronically, too. For example, some send their digital red envelopes with Line Pay. The users can divide a total sum of money into a certain number of red envelopes to hold prize draws in group chats, with the app randomly assigning the amount in each envelope for each recipient.
3.
Each year is named after one of 12 Chinese zodiac animals. The animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig, sequentially. (每年都會以十二生肖裡面的一個動物來命名這一年,依序分別是鼠、牛、虎、兔、龍、蛇、馬、羊、猴、雞、狗、豬。)

Achievement unlocked! Brought the kids to the Mid Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay on my own! We were out for 8 hours, we took MRT to and fro, we searched and took pictures with 9 out of the 10 lantern displays, we learnt about Chang Er, Hou Yi, Wu Gang and Jade Rabbit, we watched Chinese dance performances by kids, we watched a dragon dance, we watched the Garden Rhapsody twice, we did a flower craft, we had nasi lemak for dinner (except for baby who had homecooked porridge), we explored the Food Street, we survived the crowd and we made it back in one piece. Woohoo! Probably a lot of people thought I was crazy, including my in laws when I told them I was going to GBTB today with the kids (hubby is overseas). Not to mention fellow commuters who saw how I had to struggle with an active, sometimes cranky, baby and two energiser bunnies who couldn't stop hopping everywhere we went. Well, it can be done! If I can, you can too! P.S. The Mid Autumn Festival takes place till 18 Sept, do visit if you haven't! #ahappymum #gbtb #saturdaynightout #justmeandmykids #friendsofthegardens #notsponsored #midautumnfestival #gardensbythebay
