IN 2020 WE WILL NOT BE ASKING ASIANS IF THEY HAVE BEEN TO UR NEIGHBOURHOOD PAN-ASIAN RESTAURANT !!!!
this line was based off a conversation I had at a wedding where a guy asked me if I knew these 4 Japanese restaurants around Richmond and Wimbledon as if I WOULD KNOW EVERY JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN ZONE 3 LONDON!!!
But tbh when I meet new ppl this is a v standard set of questions I receive. I have internalised the anxiety of meeting new ppl and have avoided spaces like this, and this is why: as an immigrant Ive worked really fucking hard to “integrate” in western spaces - i have a Cambridge degree, my English is immaculate lmao. I think I have a pretty interesting job and have causes I feel passionately about (LGBTQ+ issues, climate change, racism etc), I have loads of hobbies but in these conversations we never EVER get to talking about these things. The conversation gets stuck around Japan for the most part. I would ask them what they did for work, or what keeps them busy, steer the conversation away - but it would always always come back to Japan, or Japanese culture.
I am proud to be Japanese don’t get me wrong, but can we please fucking wait and let people talk about their culture IF THEY WANT TO. I know ignorance doesn’t come from a bad place, and this is what I wanted to highlight- that u gotta check what u think sounds flattering and what actually IS flattering. a lifetime of objectifying demoralising and marginalising shit gets boring !!!!!!!!!
And know that if u do wanna ask exclusively about the culture our faces/skin colour/race/religion/gender identity may represent to u then know that internally we r screaming STFU!!!! Stream STFU!

【專題訪問 Interview Feature】2019年度香港大學學生會周年大選中央幹事會候選常務祕書麥嘉晉訪問 | Interview with Mak Ka Chun Eugene, the Proposed General Secretary of Executive Committee, The Hong Kong University Students’ Union of Annual Election 2019
(Please scroll down for English version.)
Mak Ka Chun Eugene is running as a one-man cabinet in the Annual Election 2019. He is another candidate unit running for a seat in the Union’s Executive Committee, besides Prism, the proposed Cabinet of Executive Committee, The Hong Kong University Students’ Union in Annual Election 2019. Campus TV has interviewed with Mak, with regards to his vision of a one-man cabinet, the reason to run as candidate, and the leakage of his personal videos; he has also elaborated on his disagreeing with Hong Kong independence and supporting the enactment of the National Anthem Bill.
The interview excerpts are as follows:
1. What is your understanding of the post of General Secretary?
I might not have too clear of an understanding about the post of General Secretary, i.e. the duties of the General Secretary of Executive Committee, The Hong Kong University Students’ Union.
2. Why did you choose to run for the post of the General Secretary out of other posts?
The reason for running for the General Secretary is because I do not believe I have what it takes to assume the post of the Chairperson (the correct title should be: “President”). I am a rather careful and meticulous person, and my abilities are more in line with the area of the General Secretary, such as word/ document processing, and handling emails.
3. Do you think your incident* about being exposed as a womanizer, and the leakage of your explicit videos have an impact on your election campaign?
I understand that I have left a negative impression on some people from this incident; I would like to apologize to these people, because I have scathed the reputation of the University as a student of the University. In addition, this incident has made me known to public. Objectively speaking, some might consider the incident as a mistake, and that it would not affect my political stance or my service to them (members of the Students’ Union). Meanwhile, I do recognize that this incident has created a negative impression of myself, I will try my best to gain the trust of people from my election campaign.
*Mak Ka Chun Eugene was allegedly exposed as a womanizer, some explicit photos and videos of Mak in a conversation have been leaked by an anonymous account onto Lihkg, a public forum in Hong Kong.
4. What is the position of the Students’ Union in your eyes?
We should take into considerations the various perspectives and stakeholders’ opinions before declaring a stance, therefore I am not sure what I will be standing for should I be elected. Personally, I am not too keen on politics, but I would say that for most issues, I take more of a centre-left position.
5. Why did you decide to run as an independent candidate?
Despite not having formed a cabinet, I wish to fulfill my election aim: I hope to show the society how The Hong Kong University Students’ Union is not as radical and one-sidedly biased as how the society perceives it to be. I hope people could see that the Union has not only one path of thinking, everybody has individual thinking. Therefore, I would run as candidate even if I am doing so alone.
6. Should four proposed candidates of the Executive Committee be elected, how would discrepancy of views be dealt with?
If all four candidates have the honour to be elected, and have disparate views on issues, I think (acting on one’s) political views is not the Union’s only duty, there are other duties including administrative work, representing students, providing students’ welfare etc. Therefore, I do not think I would resign solely over a discrepancy on political views, other duties should not be neglected.
7. Where do you stand on the political spectrum? / How would you define your political stance?
I am not too keen on politics, but I would say that for most issues, I take more of a centre-left position.
8. Could you use a political group or a political figure in Hong Kong to represent yourself?
I think it is quite difficult to say, because Hong Kong’s politics has been so polarizing. Personally, I do not consider myself radical (politically), so I think the earlier Democratic Party better represents my current stance. In terms of a political figure, I think Mr Ronny Tong Ka-wah can better represent me, because like Tong, I know how to handle matters from multiple perspectives. Besides, Tong is a rather collected politician, he knows not to carelessly react and comment; he does not hold a predetermined stance towards issues, and he does not let his pan-democratic background dictate his views on matters that he thinks are unreasonable or not deserving of his support. Therefore, Mr Ronny Tong Ka-wah and the earlier Democratic Party is better proximate and representative of my political stance.
9. What are your views on the Mong Kok Incident in 2016?
What I observe currently about the Mong Kok Riot, or my apologies, it should be the Mong Kok Incident, is that many people are unwilling to bear responsibility for their actions, and I think a lot of the participants (of the incident) were rather reckless and negligent in considering the majority of Hong Kong’s opinion, they have also harmed the safety of many. I personally do not support nor agree with this action. However, I believe all voices should be heard, if anyone has an opinion on an issue, I hope they can convey them in a rational manner.
10. Do you support Hong Kong independence?
Firstly, I do not agree with nor support Hong Kong independence, but I think that the idea itself can be discussed on an academic or political level, as long as we are not encouraging the actualisation of it, we can have purely theoretical discussion because it is like any other thought or ideology that can be discussed. In response to Hong Kong independence, I have a few points to raise.
I do not support Hong Kong independence because I think that Hong Kong has established long years of relationship with China, Hong Kong needs the support of China in multiple areas, no matter economic, social, or policy-wise. We should always have a close connection to China. Certainly, I do not agree with all of China’s policies, for example the oppression of freedom of speech and of human rights, but I do not think we should cut ties with China entirely based on these disagreements. Ultimately, China and we have had a very close affiliation historically. At the same time, I think that Hong Kong independence is not legally justified, so I would not support such an illegal action. Because Hong Kong independence is not legal and not suitable, I do not support it.
11. Do you agree with the enactment of the National Anthem Bill?
I think the motive of the enacting the National Anthem Bill is justified, and (the act) should be encouraged. As long as everyone is willing to respect the national anthem and to bear responsibility for their own actions, I think the enactment of the National Anthem Bill is necessary, because I respect the national anthem. Besides using the national anthem as a form of self-expression (of political opinions or views), there are many other ways to communicate an opinion. Although freedom of speech might be harmed under the enactment of the bill, there are still other methods to convey our opinions about China, so I do not foresee the effect of the National Anthem Bill to be as severe as it is portrayed to be.
12. Do you agree with the enactment of Article 23?
Currently and in the short run, Article 23 should not be enacted. However, if Hong Kong experiences a problem of safety in the future, one that the current legal system has no power to control, I think that it may call for Article 23… not necessarily Article 23, but an enhanced enforcement of the law, the law should be amended to strengthen its power and deterring functions to ensure the safety of our society.

【防狼之心不可無】
My mum didn't teach me about the birds and the bees.
I was a voracious reader and figured it out on my own at the age of 8, while reading a Charlie Brown encyclopedia.
But what my mum relentlessly taught me was to be wary of wolves. Stranger or family, they can morph into big bad wolves.
My parents worked 12 hours a day to provide for me.
As they were often not around, my mum commando trained me to be fiercely independent since I was a little girl.
I would be home alone for as long as 8 hours after school.
Mum drilled into me never to answer the door if a stranger knocks.
Once when I was 5, I was crossing the small road, to find my grandpa at the market.
I was on my own.
(Told you I was trained young. I would also like to think we lived in a generally safe neighborhood.)
A stranger man stopped me in my track and asked me if I wanted sweets.
My red alert antenna shot up.
I said no firmly to the man.
(I had never liked candy anyway.)
He persisted and told me he could bring me to his car where there were many sweets and toys.
I glared at him as fiercely as a 5-year-old could and threatened to scream if he didn't leave.
The man hurriedly backed off.
My mum's script for dealing with such strangers worked!
When I was 7, I was taking buses on my own to my mum's office at Keppel, after school.
I worked part-time in my mum's office as a tele-operator, Girl Friday and did all sorts of admin duties. #childabuse
Mum was very strict in my telephone etiquette. Few people could tell that they were speaking to a 7-year-old over the phone.
It was a male-dominated environment, and my dad would insist that I wear more trousers than dresses. I rarely had any dress except for CNY. No mini skirts, no strappy revealing tops, no hot pants, no masquerading as a Disney princess looking for a Prince.
Before I was 12, my mum would often reinforced to me:
No man should be allowed to touch me. That would be molest and is a criminal offense.
Never get into a lift alone with another male stranger. If the man comes in after me, I must quickly exit the lift.
Don't talk to strangers, even if they are females.
Don't accept gifts, drinks or foods from strangers, in case they are drugged.
Learn to run quickly.
Learn to shout loudly and fiercely.
Don't show your fear in front of wolves.
Bite as hard as I can.
Kick right with all the strength I can.
Don't walk in dark streets.
Don't sleep on the bus.
Avoid sharing seats with men on the bus.
Always check to see if anyone is tailing me.
#ninjaintraining
For umpteen times throughout my childhood and teenage years, my mum would say, that I MUST let her know if any man touches me. Even if it's a male relative or my own father.
She said she would definitely pursue legal action if I was molested. Because my safety is of paramount importance to her than anything else.
Mum also went through many times, how I should react/slap/kick if there was an outrage of my modesty.
She told me why it was important to respect my body and not have it manipulated by others.
She emphasized to me about the virtue of celibacy before marriage and why girls should not abuse their bodies.
She also warned me not to trust men when they use love as a bait to get into bed with them or use excessive flowery words. Such men would never make good husbands.
And never never get myself drunk. #thankBuddhaIdontdrink
Mum also said, if she had to bring me up alone, without daddy, she would NEVER have another man live with us, in case anything happened to me. Blood is thicker than water, Mum would reiterate.
A woman never has to build her life and happiness on another man.
Mum led by example and held her word to the very end. #soproudofmymum
You can say I grew up in a very protective environment and had a distinct sense of what is right and wrong because of my mum.
I count myself fortunate that I had never been put in compromising situations.
Or rather, I was quick to jump out when the situation isn't going right.
Like when passengers make funny requests to me on board.
The worst was when a Chief Steward walked behind me, at a narrow aisle and slided his hand against the back of my waist.
I was ready to crack his wrist and then "apologise" profusely if he did it again.
#crackfirstthenreport #大不了丟工作罷了
I also do not like it when taking photos with men, and their hands slide up to my shoulders.
Your hand got no better place to put? Did you ask for permission? #crack
About a year ago, I visited this new cafe for its desserts.
When I stepped into the cafe, this vibe of sadness enveloped me.
I was slightly perturbed. It was a newly renovated cafe, with highly Instagrammable decor.
Why the gloom? Could my Feng Shui antenna have sensed things wrongly?
I had my Luo Pan with me but didn't take the sitting directions of the cafe. It didn't seem appropriate at that time.
A few days ago, I read of its owner having depression since she was a child.
Her parents fought often and after the divorce, she stayed with her mum and her mum's boyfriend's family.
She was only 9 years old when the father of her mum's boyfriend molested her. It was her second time being molested by an adult figure.
The old man orchestrated to first win her trust and reliance, when the old man offered to pick her up from school, as her mum worked long hours. Sometimes she had to wait 5 hours before her mum could picked her up.
Not once did she spoke a word about this to her mum. She didn't wanted to burden her mother who worked 3 jobs and being lonely and bullied in school, she was "wrongly" glad that someone wanted her.
Ever since such a turbulent childhood, she had never felt emotionally secure. When she broke up with her boyfriend of 6 years, she sunk further into clinical depression, feeling that she had lost her safety net in life.
One lady I knew had a father who molested her younger sister. Ever since she knew, she became very wary of him.
Once while she was sleeping, her father came up to her bed, on the pretext of covering her with the blanket.
She woke up in time before anything happened.
I also heard of a real-life story where all the 3 daughters were molested in turn by their father. I knew one of them.
None of them told their mother.
One day, the father died at his work site, due to a crane accident. At his funeral, the eldest daughter said coldly to his dead body that she would now forgive him.
Why do you think he died such a horrible death, my friend?
To all parents out there, as you send your children to one enrichment class after another, please do not neglect to teach your children about wolves.
Your children need to feel safe to confide into you.
You need to educate them what is unacceptable behaviour when it comes to their bodies.
The world is getting more dangerous.
Our children must be skilled in handling unexpected situations where trust is breached.
Don't assume it will never happen to your children.
If it does, I hope for the good of your common sense, that you will do what is necessary to protect your child. Don't sweep things under the blanket and jeopardize your child's emotional sanity for the rest of his/her life.
Bad things don't just happen to little girls. Little boys should be well-informed too.
If you fail in your protective duty as a parent, the first adult that a child trust, you will not be spared from the clutches of Yin punishment.
And if you are a wolf in a sheep's clothing reading this, wake up your idea and repent soon.
Even if the police is unable to arrest you,
no one gets away from Karma.
The consequences of your evil deeds will always haunt you, even in your next life and next next life, till the people you hurt get their revenge and you truly repent, never to repeat your misdeeds again.

How you make the batter is the key. My mom uses Takoyaki flour and tasty Dashi broth, then makes the batter bit loose and less salty. In this way we can eat Takoyaki forever with No Sauce 😂👍
Serving Takoyaki with Dashi broth is our typical family style. Sometimes we put sauce then pour over the Dashi but this time, no one used the sauce because the batter was a success. Making the batter from scratch is not easy for the beginners, so I recommend using Takoyaki flour for No Sauce like this one 😉 https://amzn.to/3nKsbDG
Takoyaki is a popular Japanese ball-shaped snack made of batter, diced octopus, tenkasu (tempura scraps), beni shoga (red pickled ginger), and aonegi (green onion), topped with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, aonori (green laver), and katsuobushi (bonito flakes). Slightly crispy on the outside and creamy inside.

Hi, I'm SLS. Here's our 300k special video. I recorded this video for almost a whole afternoon. All the songs you heard in this video are the songs we've done before in this channel. (or in the future LOL) They're the memories for both you and me.
I wanna thank to Sigfrid Art Center for offering the place and the Steinway piano, and thank to my cinematographer Santon.W for helping me with everyone on video. Thanks to Tt and Emma for helping me that day. None of these happen without your help. hope you like this video.
Anyway, thank you all for making this happen. I'll work harder and try to make SLSMusic better and better, bring you more music contents in the future. As always, we'll upload video every Friday, and do live streaming on the weekends. Don't miss it!

our place always pan 在 Spice N' Pans Youtube 的最讚貼文
Bak Kwa is one of the snacks that we Singaporeans always must have at home for Chinese New Year. I dunno when this became a tradition but i guess it's because bak kwa is expensive so usually families will only eat this during festive period.
Bak kwa, also known as rou4 gan1 in Chinese, is a savoury and sweet dried meat product that is similar to jerky. In Singapore, it is usually made of pork. Bak kwa can also be found in Malaysia.
If you like to buy a Magimix food processor, head up to Robinsons, Tangs, Metro, Takashimaya, OG, BHG etc in Singapore to get one for yourself or your loved ones. Those staying in Malaysia can also get the pan from most leading departmental stores in the country. If you are not staying in Singapore or Malaysia, you can also get Magimix from Amazon. Here's the link for your easy convenience: https://amzn.to/2CDHlV8. Happy shopping!
