I honestly don’t know where to begin…I’m totally speechless! I didn’t expect such overwhelming support from all of you wonderful people! I’m truly humbled. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for celebrating with me and my family. I can’t possibly thank you enough. May The Almighty bless you all and reward you abundantly…
As promised, I’ll explain to you a bit more about my talk in detail. As previously mentioned, the topic of my talk is 'Do You Speak The Future?', a talk discussing the future of language. But please, don’t start by asking me how many languages I can speak! Linguistics is not just about learning the most languages, but rather, it’s the study of how language as a whole works.
I talk about how rapidly language has changed and developed, and how fast it is still currently doing so. I also put forward some ideas on how we could start to predict the linguistic changes that the future might bring. One of these ways is conlanging - a pursuit which involves using linguistics to construct your own language, and one of my biggest passions.
But conlanging isn’t simply making up some random gibberish words and assigning them a meaning. As I discuss in my talk, there are many ways in which we can use conlanging to make logical linguistic predictions - in other words, fact-based linguistic fortune-telling!

【背英文單字,要看中文定義?還是看英文定義?超過30年的科學研究結果。。。】
中文只要不是 "guide" (主導) 英語學習,其實用對方法是有機會 "support" "facilitate" 英語學習的過程。
以字彙學習來看,若沒有顧到 grammatical behavior (簡譯:文法規範) 和 collocation field (簡譯:字詞搭配關係),用英英也還是無法避免 language errors。(更不用談更專業就不在此解釋的semantics)
以中文輔助英文學習為例 "catch sb off guard",叫學習者去記 "to surprise someone, esp. in a way that makes the person feel confused or uncertain",不如一秒鐘我說「殺~個措手不及」更好理解。英文定義當然可以記(誰會說不行),但在這個狀況下,中文就是輔助學習的好時機。
曾經有研究中發現,有個美國的老師,在被學生問 "conceal" 是什麼意思的時候,隨口說出了 "hide"。因此學生之後也自在地說出 to conceal under the table (應該是 to hide under the table 才對) ,該外師才發現,啊,自己的教學方法有問題 (此例為忽略了字詞搭配關係)。
It depends. 講到這,我與哥倫比亞大學教育科技博士的學長共同開發,以台灣為主題的搭配詞學習手遊,已經超過 5000 個人下載啦!還沒下載的人可以去玩玩看!(前三關免費)

How to Learn 5000 Chinese Characters(Hanzi/Kanji) Effectively
-------------
Adam is an English guy who's been living in Hong Kong for four and a half years. He studied Linguistics at Cambridge University, and already speaks fluent Chinese (Cantonese) quite fluently. Adam is not only able to speak flute Chinese (Cantonese), but also able to read and write.
In this episode he talks about how to learn Chinese character(Hanzi/Kanji) effectively including the technique and tools that he recommends to use.
Learning Chinese characters is a memory game. You want to:
1, Know the meanings and pronunciations of a few thousand Chinese characters(Hanzi/Kanji) .
2, Keep them in your memory.
3, Minimise the time it takes to do this.
Let’s see how a Cambridge Linguist recommend you to learn Chinese Characters/Kanji effectively.

I have a weird habit of speaking in Korean when I wake up from anaesthesia. I'm not sure why it happens, but I decided to upload the video as I thought it would be interesting when viewed through a linguistics/cultural lens. And yes, I have of course learned Korean before - I don't think it's possible to magically wake up speaking a language without previous exposure. Thank you to all the views, comments, likes and subscribes! You guys rock!
