Likely the best foodie discovery to come out of the Khao Yai trip was this local veggie dish, ผัดยอดทานตะวัน.
Stir fried sunflower sprouts which thrives in this region and you can taste it also. Not just a "flowery" name, these squiggly green, crunchy sprouts are literally the sprouts of the beloved yellow sunflower.
You may have come across this "microgreen" daintily spread across your fit bowls or tweezered on to an impossibly complicated dish at fine restaurants across town but have you ever had it this fresh, and stir fried with just a dash of light soy, a hint of fresh chili and pounded garlic?
It's the things that dreams are made of...plus it is as close to the nature you can consume without going out in the sunflower fields here and helping yourself, which we may actually consider doing on our next trip. 😉
Hot tip: order the local wild mushroom dish but stay away from the over-priced industrial pork Ribs, courtesy of 'unsaid brand' whose logo are unabashedly plastered about the place.
