Reposted from @babeandbeauty (@get_regrann) - A. I am going to step on my soapbox for this one. By now, we all know how terrible smoking is for our entire body as well as it can lead to cancer. None the less, people still do it or “only when I drink.” In the treatment room, it's very obvious if a client is a smoker or not by the looks of their skin. I can even tell if a client is right/left-handed by the pattern of blackheads and wrinkles that is more prominent on one side of their face.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How does smoke affect the skin?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When tobacco is heated it releases free radicals that damage the DNA of skin cells. This results in collagen and elastin being broken down. It also constricts blood vessels which deplete the skin of much-needed oxygen, vitamins and nutrients. When that puff of toxic smoke is exhaled it hits the skin on the face and can cause blackheads particularly around the mouth/cheek areas. Over time this leads to accelerated aging, dehydration, dark circles, broken blood vessels and an overall gray dull-looking complexion. Studies also indicate that smokers heal slower than non-smokers. So that means when you do get a pimple it can take longer to heal which can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Lastly, puckering your mouth to take a drag also leads to wrinkles around the lips.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about cannabis smoke?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As an advocate of cannabis and user myself, I wish I could say it’s not the same as cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, burning plant matter of any kind still negatively affects the skin as stated above. I know this is not what you (or I) want to hear! The good news is you can eat cannabis, ingest it in a tincture, rub it on or smoke it in a vaporizer for a less skin damaging effect. 💚

Swipe to guess which identical twin is the smoker and non-smoker. →

The photo shown here are the side effects i had on my skin during my chemo days... I think i had like most of it except flaky skin..
WHAT ABOUT YOU? DO YOU TOO?
What changes can you expect on your skin after chemo and radiation?
Some of you may find that your skin is more likely to burn in the sun or react to chemicals. So be careful when you are in the sun, and wear at least factor 15 sun protection. Not all chemotherapy drugs cause skin changes, but it is important to be aware that skin may be more sensitive or easily irritated during treatment.
General skin reactions that can occur with chemotherapy include:
1. Redness
2. Rashes
3. Itching
4. Dryness/ Flaky Skin
5. Acne
6. Nail Discolouration
7. Hyperpigmentation - darkening of the skin
Back then i stopped on all perfumed products, using only baby shampoo and body wash (Johnson & Johnson), showered only on cold water (hot water may cause dry skin too), no make ups except my eyebrow pencil (i dont use mascara too cos i lost all my lashes! XD), no popping of pimples, no medication on the acnes/ pimples outbreak... Basically, i went all natural on all products i used...
And i started to take alot of fruits.. Its a lil exaggerating but yeah, i had like 80 fruits in my first month (after my operation). My fruits diet consists of fresh coconut juice, sweet oranges (no sour please!), kiwis, banana, papaya, apples, and more.... Well, they are all high in VITAMIN C; Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly.
Fruits are also very important to prevent constipation and this difficulty in emptying the bowels are common among cancer patients who undergo chemo and radiation.
*IMPORTANT*
Fruits should be taken 1 hour before a meal, or 2 hours after your meal. When fruits are eaten alone, your stomach can more easily process all of the nutrients, fibre and the simple sugars contained in the fruit. This is the optimal 'proper way' to benefit from the fruit you eat. If you eat fruit close to a meal, you might experience indigestion, heartburn, burping and and other digestive discomforts.
Sharing how my skin benefit from fruits might be helpful to all of you out there.

#EJshares, My Honest Skin Journey Before & After Pico Laser Treatment by @onedocmedical without any filters, make up/ beauty enhancer editing apps. Absolutely barefaced under the room & natural light.
Sharing with ya this latest & finest Laser Treatment Tech that EJ had done after my virus infection (herpes zoster opthalmicus aka Shingles; we Malay call it Kayap) has subsided, that left me with so many hypo & hyperpigmented scars scattered around my upper left head.
Fyi, pigmented scars are very stubborn scars to vanish, mere daily skincare routine is kinda not enough. Depending on the severity, it usually takes more than 2 weeks, months & to a certain extent, it can be permanent. A highly disciplined & good skincare routine with a correct technique is vital.
But, as we are currently in a heavy battle with the unhealthy lifestyle that we are living in every day (unhealthy foods, poor sleep pattern & hectic schedule, mental & phy stresses & polluted environment) which need to be considered for the factor that may disturb the recovery process, as it may obscure our body, particularly the skin to regenerate & recover healthily.
Plus, it is more worrisome if we’re having such a deep & multiple huge pigmented scars that really time consuming to heal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thus, as the part & effort from ourself to augment our skin care routine, EJ would like to suggest this Pico Laser Treatment, which can help to solve your skin problem with 0 side effects, no downtime, not even painful, and of course faster & better result.
Trust me, EJ can assure you guys the effectiveness of this treatment as EJ already done it & started to feel the positive improvements on EJ own skin as early as the first one. But do bear in mind, don’t expect to have a 100% removal by just after 1 treatment, as it needs few treatments for an absolute scar removal according to the severity of the scar too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Therefore, if any of u is currently experiencing any skin problem don’t hesitate to consult @onedocmedical & they will suggest u the best treatment accordingly. Anything to ask? Pls, feel free to do so.
