Vivid memory for this and lemme condense this long story.
March 2004. Back then I had just started to be a freelance musician and playing for Wong KaKeung from Beyond. And one day my jamming buddy Hoshan 何山 (his band was called Pixeltoy) called me up and said 'hey man you're friends with At17 ya? There's this upcoming gig that would like you to play drums!' (I met At17 in 2001 when they weren't even called At17!!) I was hype and said yes. We started rehearsing at the former PMPS studio at ChungWo Lane Soho. There weren't even a proper soundproof and we got massive noise complains 😂 and that was actually my first time meeting the PMPS crew like Lee Duan Han and Jason Choi, and producer Carl Wong. One day after the rehearsal, Carl was asking, 'hey would you be interested in playing more cantopop concerts and stuffs?' 'Yah cool, hook me up!' We switched to Nic Tse's studio for rehearsal as the noise complains getting us in trouble. And I first met Hocc during the rehearsals there as she was the guest for this gig. I was FRESH to all of these people and was tense as Fxxx😂
A sunny day for this At17 concert, my set up wasn't that fancy and my metronome was a Zoom guitar effect with lo-fi drum machine in it. And I wasn't even a pro, was just trying to nail it as much as possible.
We played awesome tunes and many fans would remember that crazy iconic song called 'goldfish song'! The truth is, we didn't even rehearse this song AT ALL! Instead, we were verbally "rehearsing" at backstage before the set, and we kinda messed up on stage😂
After the gig, I met more PMPS crew, and of course @yuyatyiupmps ! He came up and asked, 'there'll be a gig next month for Anthony Wong 明哥 and Miriam Yeung, can you do it?' I did it and Carl called me up a few months later and asking me to play for this Nic Tse tour gig, too.
That was one of the incidents that how my career started and I'm always thankful to all of these lovely people, and of course they became my good friends since this project! (Btw, I was FAT in 2004, YouTube it😅)
