Have a Claypot rice before it is too warm to have one... it is already very warm 😅
Claypot rice is rice cooked in a claypot with different ingredients, typical ones include chinese sausage #臘腸, toads thigh 田雞, dried duck #臘鴨 and chicken 滑雞. My favourite combination is chicken plus Chinese sausage 滑雞臘腸. Sheung Hei 嚐囍煲仔小菜 is recognized by the Michelin Guide for a Bib Gourmand distinction this year. That’s why there was a long queue outside the restaurant. We waited for 25 minutes to get into the restaurant on a Saturday.
Two of us ordered a few dim sums and 2 pots of claypot rice (臘鴨滑雞 Dried duck + chicken HKD$80; 臘腸油鴨 Dried sausages + dried duck HKD$88) which was too much 😅 The family sitting next to us has ordered the sweet and sour pork, which looks really good. If I’m going to the restaurant again, I will probably order this plus one claypot rice only.
The essence of the claypot rice is a good soy sauce and the crispy crust (swipe to see the last video). The claypot rice in Sheung Hei has both but the rice is a bit too dry to “absorb” the soy sauce. I like their dim sums over the claypot rice, especially Siu Lung Bao (also known as Shanghai Xiaolongbao) - thin skin plus very juicy.
I am still searching for a nice place for claypot rice, any recommendation? 🙋🏻♀️
