Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar
Dr Intan Mokhtar is retiring as a Member of Parliament, after serving as an MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC for the past 9 years.
Intan took charge of Jalan Kayu ward. As MP and adviser to the Jalan Kayu Grassroots Organisations, Intan worked to enhance amenities for residents, including a neighbourhood centre, upgraded playgrounds and new roads. Her projects include:
- Construction of the new Buangkok Square Mall and Buangkok Square Park.
- The Jalan Kayu Environmental improvement Project to retain the rustic look of the old Jalan Kayu Road but enhance the streetscape, rejuvenate the area, and improve safety, particularly for pedestrians.
- Preservation of Lorong Buangkok Kampong as a heritage site that co-exists with an urban landscape.
Intan started several social and welfare assistance programs for residents such as the Care and Share Programme which was a monthly collection of food items from residents which were then redistributed to low-income families. HOME@Jalan Kayu provided help to low-income families who needed simple furnishing, fittings or repair works to be done in their homes.
Intan has managed her MP responsibilities and education career with motherhood. Recently she celebrated the commissioning of her eldest son, who was in primary school when she entered politics and is now a second lieutenant in the SAF!
Jalan Kayu residents and volunteers will remember Intan as a kind, patient and caring MP who worked tirelessly to build communities and improve lives.
