“Blinded by the light”
I remember vividly the first time music touched my consciousness and hooked my soul. I must have been 6 or 7. Our house just got burned down in the Berkeley hills fire and we had moved to a new house in Piedmont. In our new living room my parents set up a new state of the arc sound system (high fidelity sound) and there were cd’s everywhere. All the classics of the generation. Madonna, George Michael, Whitney, and the boss! Bruce Springsteen! Out of curiosity I played them all but there was one track that had me addicted. “I’m on fire” I read the lyrics on the cd leaflet and it moved me. I was so young I had never experienced those feelings haha what a 鹹濕song. But I could feel the longing and I was totally enraptured just like how
Javeed in the movie was the first time he heard Bruce... it was like he was speaking to you and to you only!
Fast forward several years later I remember living in a tiny apartment in LA and wanting to be an artist, a musician. I bought tons of cheap used vinyl and played them on my wannabe vintage record player. I remember feeling like I didn’t have anything, no one really understanding what I wanted to achieve. Even having my dad question once “what do you think you are doing with yourself” and that really cut me deep... but I had all that music. And I had the boss. This was the second time Bruce came into my life. And a more mature me dived into albums like “the river” and “darkness on the edge of town”.
Watching “blinded by the light” and seeing Javeed being touched how I was by Bruce reminded me how a spark can light a fire. How dreams are the most powerful force in the world. If you hear that little voice in your head at night before you sleep that urges you to follow your heart, that voice that never extinguishes.. Follow it. Develop it! Every dream is unique and individual. Make you’re own come true!
