With Turkey now having soured their ties with the Americans over their buying Russian S-400/SA-21 Growler SAM's and having sanctions imposed on them in retaliation, the Turkish are now trying to make up for the lost of access to Western technology by pushing forward with their indigenous programs.
The TAI Hürjet AJT is one of those indigenous aviation programs that the Turkish defense industry is pinning their hopes on. Having seen how the West can, and will, use arms limitation treaties like ITAR to restrict the transfer of defense technology, the Turkish are going full steam to develop a ITAR free aircraft using technology from unrestricted sources, like 100% locally developed ones or those sourced from Russia and China, to produce an advanced trainer that can be sold anywhere without Western restrictions.
An armed light fighter version of the Hürjet will feature 100% Turkish weapons, bombs and missiles etc, from Turkish firm Tübitak SAGE as well as a potential option to integrate unrestricted Russian and Chinese weapons. Such an aircraft can be sold by the Turkish anywhere without repercussions including to countries traditionally hostile to the West. ~Clorox.
