Still remember how to play mahjong? If you are planning to get one, consider getting them from the few remaining Mahjong tile craftsmen in Hong Kong. Mahjong is also a popular house-warming gift in Hong Kong.
The demand of Mahjong in Hong Kong was very high in the 70s. Each Mahjong craftsman had to engrave a few sets of mahjong, each containing 144 tiles, everyday. There were around 10 mahjong stores, each with three to four craftsmen, solely in Jordan, Kowloon in the 70s. The industry has been declining since 90s when machine-crafted Mahjong emerged. Master King (景叔) is one the few remaining Mahjong tile craftsmen in Hong Kong.
Consider getting Mahjong from these old Mahjong shops, even if you are just looking for machine-crafted mahjong. If you are lucky, you can even see Master King engraving Mahjong (this was how we met master King).
