On the last day of the #Czech delegation’s visit to #Taiwan, #AIT hosted a forum on #SupplyChain restructuring in the post-COVID era. In his address, MOFA Minister Joseph Wu pointed to Taiwan’s determination to establish reciprocal industrial ties with #LikeMinded democratic partners in #Asia, #Europe and #NorthAmerica, adding “I believe that what we are witnessing is more than the restructuring of supply chains, but also the restructuring and consolidation of values and principles and alliances. And the time has come for us to ensure that the values of freedom and democracy prevail.”
Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil meanwhile, warned of the danger of simply choosing the cheapest suppliers available, without keeping an eye on long-term strategies which can destroy local suppliers and create dependence.
AIT Director Brent Christensen stated that the #COVID19 crisis has exposed the risk of reliance on a single country or supplier for critical materials like medical supplies or pharmaceuticals. He added, “Taiwan has proven time and again that it is a reliable partner and a critical player for moving towards a more sustainable global economy.”
A joint statement on strengthening supply chains was issued at the forum, stating that as the #WuhanCoronavirus continues to spread and geopolitical uncertainty continues to threaten global supply chains, AIT and TAITRA will strengthen efforts to restructure supply chains to make them more resilient and further cooperation in the ICT and medical sectors.
