Soldiers from the Swedish-Finnish Amphibious Task Unit (SFATU) in action at the maritime warfare exercise Silja. SFATU is a part of military cooperation between Sweden and Finland. A special unit composed from two countries marines units (Amfibieregementet and Uudenmaan prikaati) exercises together regularly.
The goal of defence cooperation between Sweden and Finland is to improve military capabilities, enable joint operational activities, to advance the interests regarding national defence and to strengthen the security within Baltic Sea region. FISE Naval is created in order to enhance the bilateral naval cooperation between Sweden and Finland. The Swedish and Finnish navies have been engaged in different types of cooperation, i.e. bilateral exercises, exchange, development and acquisition programmes, but also activities with a more operational goal.
The main effort of the vision Swedish-Finnish Naval Task Group (SFNTG) is to find cost-effective and smart ways to utilize the two navies’ operational capabilities and capacities into available forces in order to meet today´s and tomorrow´s security challenges.The joint Swedish-Finnish Naval Task Group (SFNTG) reached its initial operational capability in 2017.
