When God Speaks in Dreams
“For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed; Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.”(Job 33:14-18 WEB)
At times, God may speak to you through dreams.
He can give anyone a dream, even non believers, as can be seen when he gave Abimelech a dream about Abraham, and Nebuchadnezzar prophetic dreams.
Even Pontius Pilate’s wife received a dream about Jesus, to warn Pilate not to have any part in harming Jesus. Yet, Pilate chose to disregard the dream.
Sometimes, God gives a dream to a person, and gives the interpretation to another, so as to bring the two people together for a purpose. This happened to Joseph who received the dream’s interpretation so that he would be promoted by Pharaoh.
When God speaks in dreams, do you listen?
What are some dreams from the Lord that you received recently? Let’s do some dream interpretation like Joseph did for Pharaoh!

Holy Spirit Indwelling Old Testament Saints
Who says that the Holy Spirit did not indwell anyone in Old Testament times before the cross?
The following passages show some examples of men who had the Holy Spirit in them (in means “indwelling”, not just “on” which is the temporary anointing upon a person that lifts after the Spirit has completed His purpose).
Joseph had the Spirit of God in him:
“And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.” (Genesis 41:38-39 NKJV)
Joshua had the Spirit of God in him (The Lord said so):
“And the LORD said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and inaugurate him in their sight.” (Numbers 27:18-19 NKJV)
Daniel had the Spirit of God in him:
“But at last Daniel came before me (his name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god; in him is the Spirit of the Holy God), and I told the dream before him, saying: “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you, and no secret troubles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.” (Daniel 4:8-9 NKJV)
Now, before you say that Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar are not trustworthy sources because they were pagans, do not forget that God uses rulers as mouthpieces sometimes—even those who did not have true faith in Him. An example would be Caiaphas the High Priest who kept on resisting Jesus:
“And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.” (John 11:49-52 NKJV)
Jesus said that those who don’t believe or heed His words are not of God, but of their father, the devil. Caiaphas may have held the office of high priest, but he was not a true believer in Yahweh since he kept opposing Jesus.
This makes him no holier than Pharaoh or Nebuchadnezzar.
It is interesting to note also that God called Nebuchadnezzar His servant, and later on, Nebuchadnezzar did place his faith in Yahweh.
“And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him.” (Jeremiah 27:6 NKJV)
The Holy Spirit cannot indwell a defiled spirit that is dead in sin. Since He was able to indwell Joseph, Joshua, and Daniel, this means that Jesus’ blood at the cross has always been effective to cleanse people from their sins. There were vessels fit for the Holy Spirit even in Old Testament times.
It was just God’s mystery hidden from the world, until the right time came to proclaim this truth openly. Some Old Testament saints tapped into this truth unknowingly, and received the benefits of God’s grace.
Consider how Enoch and Elijah, two men who lived before the cross, were able to be received into Heaven. They have never died and are still alive there. How can they have sin in them and be accepted in Heaven? They must have already been cleansed from their sins.

Wait for the Right Time
“He restored the chief cup bearer to his position again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand; but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. Yet the chief cup bearer didn’t remember Joseph, but forgot him.” (Genesis 40:21-23 WEB)
We all want our season of promotion and blessedness to come immediately. However, before that season, there is usually a quiet one of preparation.
In Joseph’s life, he was in prison for a crime he did not commit. After interpreting the dreams of two royal subjects, Joseph told them to remember him before Pharaoh, but the chief butler forgot about Joseph.
Just like that, two years went by. Can you imagine how disappointed Joseph must have felt? He might have thought, “Am I ever getting out of this prison, or will I spend my whole life in here?”
You may be feeling the same way. Your circumstances may be like a prison whereby you are existing, but not truly living the “life more abundantly” that Jesus died for you to have.
For a person who has a sickness, the abundant life would look like a healthy body that can do anything without feeling weakness or pain.
For a person who is lonely, the abundant life would look like having a spouse that he can share his life with.
For a person who is poor and in debt, the abundant life would look like having all debts paid and having more than enough savings to even be a blessing to others.
Was Joseph destined to stay in prison for the rest of his life? Let’s read the story:
“At the end of two full years, Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river...In the morning, his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh. Then the chief cup bearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today. Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker. We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted. As he interpreted to us, so it was. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.” Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”” ;Genesis 41:1, 8-16 WEB)
So two years after interpreting the chief butler’s dream, Joseph was freed from prison and brought before Pharaoh.
The moment of Pharaoh having the two prophetic dreams signaled God’s appointed time for Joseph’s deliverance. Those two dreams were Joseph’s door of hope in the midst of his trouble. The gift of interpreting dreams was the key in Joseph’s hand.
But why did God take so long before freeing Joseph? Technically, He could have given the dream to Pharaoh earlier than that.
“But Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever they did there, he was responsible for it. The keeper of the prison didn’t look after anything that was under his hand, because Yahweh was with him; and that which he did, Yahweh made it prosper.” (Genesis 39:21-23 WEB)
In the prison, Joseph was put in charge of the other prisoners—it was a leadership role. During this time of quiet, mundane, routine living, God was sculpting Joseph into a man fit to be the prime minister of Egypt, to lead the whole nation of Egypt.
Perhaps you are also in a season of quiet preparation. Your talents are unknown to the world, but God is training you for the larger role He has prepared for you—your eventual destiny.
Many heroes in the Bible went through a quiet season like that: Moses tended sheep in the land of Midian before he was sent to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt. David shepherded his father’s sheep and killed a lion and a bear before he had the opportunity to fight Goliath. Gideon was a coward before God called him and turned him into a valiant hero who routed the Midianites with just three hundred men. Jesus spent thirty years in obscurity, being in close communion with the Father until it was time to begin His public ministry.
If the chief butler had told Pharaoh about Joseph any earlier, Pharaoh would have just brushed it aside. The dreams had to come first.
While you are waiting, God has already prepared the equivalent of Pharaoh’s dream to take you to a higher level at the right time. Waiting time with God is not wasted time. He is training you every day, little by little—with each Scripture, each prayer, each interaction with others, and each challenge that you overcome through faith.
If you are feeling delayed, just like Joseph was for two years in the prison, remember that delay is not denial! God is still sculpting you, and when you are ready, He will display His masterpiece for all to see.

Here is an English cover of "Kimi ni Todoke" by Japanese band flumpool. It was the theme song for the 2010 movie of the same name.
I have been getting a lot of requests for this song for a while, so I finally decided to give it a try. It was fun to translate into English and play around with the words (as always!), but it was a bit challenging to actually sing it with my vocal range, so the vocals aren't my best :-$
Also, there were a few places where it was hard to tell if the subject was "you" or "me" (Japanese doesn't always use a subject in each sentence), so please understand that this translation is just my interpretation :) Hope you like it!

Oh, the way you look at me
With your eyes, precious and round
And your hands so small
And voice, a playful nasal sound
When you smile a smile so rare
I know I’m lucky to view
Yeah, you make another dream
I dreamed that day come true
Why do I find myself desiring
The happiness of everyone that passes by me?
Want to share my joy with all the world
Honestly, the day that we met
I can say it truly was the best in a while
And I want to protect that enchanting smile
Every day my feelings will grow
Which every coming year ‘til we are old
Want you to know how I really feel inside
I won’t hide the words only I can say
And hope that, now, they can find their way
Straight into your heart
There are times you want to run
And times you cry or break down
There are argument and always
Something to worry about
But you keep on walking forward
In your own special way
Underneath the sunlight pouring through the trees
You’re lovely
As lies and jealousy surround me, I won’t stray
Oh steady heart, please help to ground me
For I just have one simple wish
And now I am closing my eyes
Picturing a future by your side and I can see
That incredible smile that you showed to me
There’s one thing, just one thought that stays
On my mind forever and always
I love you so much I can’t keep it in
As I spin the words that I’ll only say
To you alone, may they find their way
Straight into your heart
And no matter how many sides of you I see
Maybe I’m overstating what I mean
But every one of them makes my heart skip a beat
And I wanna hold you tight
And if you were filled up inside with a sadness
I would go to your side to comfort you
I’d be there in the blink of an eye
Hear these words, the words that I shout
That I could not say to you ‘til now: “I love you”
Now I sing it aloud straight into your heart
来年も 再来年も
rainen mo sarainen mo
今以上に 君が好きで
ima ijou ni kimi ga suki de
それぐらい 僕のすべてで
sore gurai boku no subete de
僕にしか言えない言葉を 見つけたから
boku ni shika ienai kotoba wo mitsuketa kara
心まで交わしたい想い 君に届けたい

Yosui Inoue / Shonen Jidai ("Boyhood")
Music/Lyrics: Yosui Inoue, Natsumi Hirai
Released 1990
Yosui Inoue is a well-known Japanese folk singer and this is probably his most famous song.
I was going to sing this outside, but various things prevented me from doing that today, so I went ahead and took in inside.
The song describes summer memories from the singer's childhood. These are quite different from what an American child experiences, but I can imagine a Japanese summer through this song. According to the singer, this song can be interpreted in many ways, so I translated it using my own interpretation. Enjoy!
Enjoy!

English Translation
As summer goes by, oh, thistle in the breeze
Whose longing lets you linger?
Left behind in the blue sky
My heart takes on a pattern of summer
I awake from a dream in the night
The long winter closes the window
And calls out to me
Dreams are but a consequence of memory
At a summer festival, the evening bonfire
Burns in time with my beating heart
August brings fireworks sparkling like a dream
My heart takes on a pattern of summer
I awake at the end of a dream
And a long shadow reaches into the night
Toward the stardust sky
Dreams are but a consequence of memory
As summer goes by, oh, thistle in the breeze
Whose longing lets you linger?
August brings fireworks sparkling like a dream
My heart takes on a pattern of summer
