This week's #BorneoIsForLovers post comes from my very dear friend and also multitalented artist, Sape player, the beauty of Sarawak, warrior woman, @alenamurang.
Alena is of Kelabit decent and this was taken by her Uncle Osart Jallong.
"This is Punang Kelapang, the river that runs through Long Peluan, in Ulu Baram, near the Sarawak - Kalimantan border."
Many gems on the island of Borneo. You just have to know where to look ;)
See you guys next week! Keep sending in your favourite photos of Borneo!
Also check out Alena and her adventures as she continues to journey around the world and sharing stories of our people with her wonderful self and music and art. @alenamurang

The #BorneoIsForLovers post this week is this picture I found online of one of my favourite animals in the bird kingdom.
This is the Bornean Hornbill, is the symbol of the land of Sarawak (given name of Sarawak is Bumi Kenyalang, 'Land Of The Hornbills') which is now, as we've guessed it, an endangered species because of the heavy deforestation and poaching that happens.
It is illegal to harm this creature (any endangered ones for that matter) as the Hornbill is regarded as an animal seen as a spiritual guardian of the forest.
Makes sense, as it eats mainly fruits and to me, is a gentle quiet observer of our beautiful, ancient rainforest of Borneo Island.
Look at how majestic it is!
Ps: not sure who this picture belongs to but please tag the rightful owner if you know. =) #borneo #burungkenyalang #hornbill

How many of us would love to be doing what @ika.abdullah here in this picture she took in Gaya Island, Sabah (Northern Borneo)!
Sabah hosts some of the most beautiful islands and waters that it is world renowned for its exclusive diving spots.
I've never been to many of the islands, but I've been told that they are really eco-conscious about protecting their corals that some dive spots don't even allow sunscreen, as the chemicals in sunscreen bleach out the corals and hurt the ocean eco-life!
So kudos on Sabah for being mindful guardians of our beautiful nature and preserving its white sands and blue seas!
