When Californian teenager Jeff Henigson was diagnosed with brain cancer and given two years to live, a children's charity granted him the wish of a lifetime. But Jeff didn't choose to go to Disneyland or meet his favourite footballer - Jeff just wanted world peace.
📌 人生無常,這篇文章主人翁就是一個例子。Jeff給診斷患有(diagnosed with) 腦癌(brain cancer),他的一生中唯一願望(the wish of a lifetime)是世界和平(world peace)。
In the summer of 1986, 15-year-old Jeff Henigson was riding his bike to the local electronics shop to buy the last part for a "super laser" he'd been building, when he was hit by a van.
"It's coming in the opposite direction and she doesn't see me and just smashes right into me," Jeff says. "And I'm launched, like a rocket, 10 feet backwards. I land on the back of my head."
Jeff wasn't wearing a helmet, and was knocked unconscious. A few hours later, he woke up in hospital. He seemed to be OK, though, so he was discharged the same day.
But within a few weeks Jeff began having seizures and he returned to the hospital, this time to have a CT scan of his brain.
If it had shown injuries from the cycling accident, Jeff would not have been surprised. But the news was worse than that - the scan revealed a tumor.
"Two things went through my mind," Jeff says. "One was a plan to lose my virginity that summer. And let's just say that did not work out. The second was to complete my laser project."
📌 他在幾個星期内感到不舒服,回到醫院進行電腦斷層掃描(CT scan),竟發現掃描顯示他有腫瘤(美: tumor 英: tumour)
Jeff was an ambitious teenager, whose dream was to work for Nasa. He believed that the best way to impress them was to build "the most amazing laser" which could bounce a beam off of a reflector that had been left on the moon by Apollo 11.
But the laser was also a way for him to bond with his father, a distant figure, who had served with the US Navy in World War Two.
📌 這段講述Jeff的夢想:為太空總署(NASA)工作。他希望建造一個激光器,令NASA對他留下好的印象。這個項目也是個與他爸爸建立緊密關係(bond with his father)的方法。
"I didn't know at the time if that was because of the war or something else. But my father was separate, emotionally, from the rest of us. And I thought, 'Here's this thing we have in common. This fascination with science. This fascination with space.' And that's why I pursued it."
Though Jeff's father never mentioned his experiences in the Pacific when the nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he would talk, at length, about nuclear weapons, the nuclear threat and the US's relationship with the USSR. And this seems to have had an impact on Jeff.
📌 Jeff解釋他跟爸爸的共同點是迷戀科學(fascination with science)、迷戀太空(fascination with space)。他爸爸詳盡地談及核武器(nuclear weapons)、核威脅(nuclear threat)以及美國跟蘇聯的關係(the US’s relationship with the USSR),這對Jeff有影響。
"There was a fictional film in the early 1980s called The Day After. It was about the Soviet Union dropping nuclear bombs on the US. I was probably 11 years old, and I was scared out of my mind. I would often fall asleep at night and go straight into a nightmare about nuclear war," Jeff remembers.
Jeff hoped not only that he would get that dream job with Nasa, but that the organisation would start to work with the USSR rather than competing with it.
"Even when I was fairly young, I could see the potential for collaboration between the US and Soviet Union," he says. "It just never made sense to me that we were pointing nuclear weapons at each other, when we could be collaborating to do extraordinary things in space."
📌 Jeff 不但希望在NASA工作,而且希望NASA會開始跟蘇聯合作,在太空合作做非凡事情 (collaborating to do extraordinary things in space)。

Listerine is among the mandatory things I will buy and put in the toilet at home. I've always been listering with Listerine to keep my mouth fragrant. I taught my 9 year old to do the same thing and it's really good for the teeth of kids who love to eat sweet things.
Apart from being used for garment, Listerine also has some other good and effective uses that you never knew. Let me share 10 ways of other Listerine uses that you can practice.
1. Removes bad smell on armpits
Pour some Listerine into cotton balls or white cloth and scrub your armpits. Listerine will remove your bad smell and give you a fresh smell. Then your wife likes to be hugged always.
2. Removes itchiness due to bug bites
Apply some Listerine to areas that are bitten by bugs like an ant or mosquitoes. It helps to relieve itchiness and prevent bite effects from becoming bruised. If you're itchy to marry differently, this way is not effective.
3. Killed germs in toilet bowl
Listerine not only can exterminate the germs in the mouth, but also in your toilet bowl. Pour some Listerine and scrub the toilet bowl with a brush. Germs die, your toilet bowl smells good too. Don't you get excited to kiss the toilet bowl later, naya.
4. Helps to remove dandruff
Wash your hair with some water, then pour Listerine and taste on it. Massage and swipe the Listerine all over the hair until it feels cold. It's fun. Wrap head with towel for 20 minutes. After that, rinse your hair again. More savings than you pay treatment for scalp at the salon.
5. Removes fleas in animal hair
Many cat fans are having flea issues in their pet hair. Can mix Listerine with water and spray into the cat's hair. In addition, it can also be mixed with bath shampoo to use while bathing the cat. Confirmed to run the flea run later defeat Usain Bolt.
6. Cleaning acne face
If you've bought all sorts of expensive facial cleansers but your pimples don't disappear, don't scrub them with the sand paper Try to use Listerine. Apply a little all over the face every morning and night. Those stubborn acne will shrink and disappear. Now you look different from the road.
7. Slaying germs in brush teeth
You guys always brush your teeth to remove dirt and germs in your teeth, but what if the brush you use is a gummer? Put some Listerine into a glass and soak your toothbrush for 2-3 hours to kill all the germs. Then you can use it without being waisted.
8. Clean up tv screen or computer monitor
Spray some Listerine on the cloth and apply it on your TV screen or computer monitor. Guaranteed that all dust and fingerprint effects will be lost in a blink of an eye. CSI Las Vegas won't make it to any case.
9. Removes bad odor in the trash can.
If you're really lazy to wash the garbage bin in the house and you don't like the bad smell of trash, take the cloth that is not used and soak with some Listerine. Then cover the barrel by putting the cloth on it. The listerine was going to absorb the smell.
10. Relieve your leg problems
Pour Listerine into the tub and mix some water and white vinegar. Soak your feet for 30 minutes into the tub. All the fungi and germs that cause your feet to smell bad and stinky will disappear. Even the leg skin will be prettier and healthier. Then you'll deserve to wear Adidas NMD shoes.
These are some other ways of using Listerine. You guys can try. If you're not diligent to try, buy the Listerine for age.

This is 11-year old me singing “When You Wish Upon a Star.” If I could visit this little girl, I’d tell her to keep standing with her feet firmly grounded, but to keep dreaming with her head held high.

Back in the days, around the time when YouTube was founded, before most of you were born, I used to Vlog a lot. I was a little ahead of my time because video sharing platforms were premature back then. I Vlogged so that I can remember my experiences back then. You'll get to know me better if you actually spend the time to watch this. If you do have the patience.
Episode 11 - Winter 2005
Continuation from Episode 10, this was my first snow storm. Snow storms really bring a lot of snow. It's mainly my school life, me chilling with my roommate Kurt. Attending free classical music concerts in my school. Checking out the frozen lake at my school and basically hanging out with friends during winter.
This is also where I met my friend Andrew, a Caucasian who can speak some chinese and my music teacher Clara Zhang.
Towards the end of the video was me and my group mate doing a project called Heelz. It's a special high heels for ladies that is actually good for their feet.
I spoke a few languages in this video, be sure to turn on captions.

Here are six unmissable experiences you need to try in the Nordic countries. Witness the world's tallest bonfire, take a dip in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon and even visit the official hometown of Santa Claus in Lapland.
What are the greatest football stadiums in the world? Wembley? Old Trafford, San Bernabéu? The Maracanã? It’s all up for debate, but if we’re talking about the most scenic stadium, look no further than the fishing village of Henningsvaer, Norway. This tiny venue with no seats is situated on its very own island, allowing locals to have easy access to the beautiful game. With Henningsvaer having a population of around 500, you won’t have too much trouble joining in the fun. To plan your Norwegian adventure visit: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/nor...
For another impressive Norwegian experience, make your way to the port town of Ålesund to see the world’s tallest bonfire. The bonfire is held every year on Midsummer’s Eve, and is part of Slinningsbalet, a massive yearly festival. Over three months, wooden pallets are stacked on top of each other to create a massive wooden structure which, when set alight, provides a spectacle that can be seen from miles away. Find out more about the town and its history at: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/nor...
The cold never bothered you anyway? Then head 200km North of the Arctic Circle to Jukkasjärvi, Sweden and chill in the world’s first hotel constructed entirely out of ice and snow. Make sure you time your booking, though, as each summer the hotel melts and each winter it’s reconstructed using ice from the neighbouring Torne River, incorporating newly themed suites, sculpted by a different artist every year to create the ultimate winter wonderland. To book your stay and read more, check out: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/swe...
For an even quirkier activity head to the Streymoy, the largest of the Faroe Islands. Here, hundreds of feet above the ocean, sheep are transported every year by a human-pulled cable car in order for them to graze. The sheep are then auctioned off to help support the local community. Plan your Faroe Island trip with Culture Trip here: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/far...
For the most wonderful time of the year head to Rovaniemi in Finland. The capital city of Finnish Lapland is the official hometown of Santa Claus and every year the local post office receives more than half a million Christmas letters from all over the world. Give the elves a hand in deciding who’s been naughty and who’s been nice and then head out on a magical husky safari. Read more: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/fin...
Iceland’s Blue Lagoon should be at the top of your bucket list. The famously milky-blue waters have captivated travellers and contributed to the country’s tourism boom in recent years. The waters are full of mineral salts, healthy algae and a kind of silica mud that contributes to its cloudy blue color as well as being a nourishing tonic for the human skin. A little-known fact is that the lagoon was the accidental result of drilling by the Svartsengi Geothermal Plant. BEN Simmons had a triple double on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers despite missing more mid-range jump shots during his warm-up than you’re likely to ever see by a professional basketballer.
He had 14 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in a wildly-entertaining 121-110 win despite going missing for long periods in the game.
He became just the second player in NBA history to post two triple doubles in his first nine games despite turning the ball over five times, getting called for two charges and missing eight of his 13 field goal attempts.
If ever anyone has played the game Ice Cube raps about in It Was A Good Day it was Simmons against the Pacers. He truly “f***ed around and got a triple double.”
Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kidd recently described his own burgeoning superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo as a plane that was ascending but had only reached 10,000 feet.
Well, Simmons can still see the runway in his rear-view mirror and he’s already reaching heights only Oscar Robertson has climbed.
“It’s just amazing to me, there’s nothing else I can really say about it,” Simmons said, when notified of his latest feat.
“It’s an honour to be there.”
KOBE: ‘HE’S A PHENOMENAL PLAYER’
It’s performances like Saturday’s that have seen Simmons capture the attention of NBA royalty, including Kobe Bryant who told news.com.au Australian fans should be buzzing about the talent they have on their hands.
“He’s a phenomenal player,” Bryant said in New York this week. “He’s just getting started too.”
Simmons has been forced to get use to such lofty praise in the past few weeks as everyone from Dominique Wilkins to LeBron James have heralded his game.
But getting the tick of approval from Bryant meant a lot to the 20-year-old from Melbourne, when news.com.au passed on the message in the locker room before he took on Indiana.
“From Kobe, that’s awesome to hear,” Simmons said. “From one of the greatest to ever play the game, that means a lot. But I got a long way to go so I’ll stay in the gym.”
The Simmons camp is starting to get word of the groundswell of support building for him Down Under too. It’s not quite at the same level as Jarryd Hayne experienced during his time with the San Francisco 49ers yet, but Simmons has only just begun and this journey will likely last 10-15 years.
“Now he’s getting triple doubles it’s buzzing here so I can only imagine what it’s like there,” his father, former NBL player Dave Simmons, told news.com.au after the siren.
“I definitely know I get a lot of support from Australia,” added Ben. “When I’m playing I’m really playing for me, my family, my team and Australia. So that means a lot. And I’ve always really played that way.”
Simmons confirmed he was targeting the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, a tantalising prospect for a Boomers program which finished fourth in Rio last year.
But first he’s determined to reignite basketball in Philly — and the City of Brotherly Love is falling fast.
