【海底兩萬哩】
庵野秀明的《海底兩萬哩》，讓我印象深刻的地方在於他用各種層面探討「死亡」這件事。
動畫剛開始男女主角離開鸚鵡螺號，在一座島上遇到了雙親被神秘組織射殺的小女孩，兩個只有十幾歲的少年，一直想辦法對女孩解釋天國的概念。那是一個相當辛酸的過程，因為這對少年來說是一個很沉重的責任。
然後當故事又回到鸚鵡螺號內時，大家因為都在大海裡吃魚吃到煩了，所以尼莫船長讓大家上岸打獵一天。吃素的女主角看到大家獵殺了一頭幼鹿，憤怒的說他們是殺人兇手，但男主角也爭辯獵殺是為了生存下去。
之後鸚鵡螺號遭遇到美國戰艦的襲擊，潛艇遭受重創，船區某運輸有毒氣體的管線外露，尼莫船長緊急關閉船艙隔離，讓三名船員死去。正當船長被主角們指責為殺人兇手時，又為他們來到亞特蘭提斯古代遺跡舉辦隆重的葬禮。
生死離別的課題，在故事裡一直是被討論的核心主軸。死亡常常與殘忍劃上等號，但很多所謂的生都是因死而延續，若船長不即時下令隔離，陪葬的是整艘船的船員；若不獵捕生物，人的生命也難延續下去；面對摯愛的人的死去，謹慎的送別可以將思念化為前進的力量。
劇本調性風趣，但不少是必須面對的殘酷議題。沒有傳統少年漫畫的熱血，但卻是餘韻無窮的作品。
