โคโรนาไวรัสในสุนัขและแมวนั้นคนละสายพันธุ์กัน ดังนั้นเมื่อติดเชื้อจึงจะแสดงอาการต่างกัน
#อาการในน้องหมา : จะทำให้เกิดโรคในระบบทางเดินหายใจและทางเดินอาหาร จะมีอาการไอ, จาม มีน้ำมูก หายใจติดขัด และอาจมีอาการอื่น เช่น อาเจียน, ท้องเสีย, เซื่องซึม, เบื่ออาหาร เป็นต้น
#อาการในน้องแมว : อาการในน้องแมวจะมีความรุนแรงกว่าน้องหมา โดยไวรัสจะโจมตีระบบทางเดินหายใจและระบบการย่อยอาหารของน้องแมว อาการเริ่มต้นจะคล้ายป่วยเป็นไข้ทั่วไป จามบ่อย, ตาแฉะ, น้ำมูกไหล, ท้องเสีย, คลื่นไส้, น้ำหนักลด และในแมวบางตัวที่ติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา ไวรัสอาจกลายพันธุ์เป็นโรคเยี่อบุช่องท้องอักเสบ (FIP) ซึ่งจะแสดงอาการแตกต่างกันออกไปขึ้นกับระดับของภูมิคุ้มกันของแมวในแต่ละตัว เกิดอาการได้ 2 แบบ เรียกกันว่า
- แบบเปียก (wet หรือ effusive form) มีน้ำในช่องท้องหรือช่องอก สังเกตุเห็นได้
- แบบแห้ง (dry หรือ non-effusive form) จะมีความยากเป็นพิเศษ เนื่องจากแมวจะไม่ได้แสดงอาการแบบจำเพาะ อาการจะเป็นตามรอยโรคที่ปรากฏอยู่
โดยไวรัสโคโรนาในแมวเป็นไวรัสที่ติดต่อระหว่างแมวผ่านการสัมผัสกับอุจจาระที่ติดเชื้อ หรือการเลียขน
