【Krug Champagne Launch, 2016 January, HK】 The rare 158eme Krug Release since the inauguration in 1843, for this 158th Krug Grand Cuvée. Apparently each year the 5 Krug Tasters undergoes tastings from October to March, writing down 4000-5000 tasting notes to compute whether they are finally worthy of release soon.
This Particular bottle ID: 108001 with Grapes ranging from Year 1988 to 2002 and received its Cork in 2008 was excellent, said to be finally maturing and ready for release. Right now it has notes of Hazelnut, Young Grapes, Green Olives Jus, Pear Skin and a slightly Metallic Smoky Mineral.
Obviously not as yeasty or brioche like as previous Vintages or Grande Cuvée yet due to the age and storage process.
Surprisingly this was really drinkable already and each bottle will have its own Character ! Real aging potential too if you ask me. The 2003 Vintage is also really drinkable right now with its apple-y sultana freshness and brioche taste despite the lack of acidity in a hot year. A little contradictory in theory but all down to the skills of the Producers as they managed to make it more alive for the ripeness ..
