God Remembers Your Sufferings
“Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me. My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me. When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil. They conspire and lurk, watching my steps, they are eager to take my life. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God. You count my wanderings. You put my tears into your bottle. Aren’t they in your book? Then my enemies shall turn back in the day that I call. I know this, that God is for me. In God, I will praise his word. In Yahweh, I will praise his word. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalms 56:1-11 WEB)
Do you feel like you’re under attack? Being persecuted by your family members? It hurts the most when hostility comes from those who are supposed to love you the most.
Look at what David did when he was persecuted by his enemies. He confessed that his God is greater than his enemies and praised Him, expecting deliverance from God.
He clung onto God by faith and didn’t allow himself to spiral down into fear.
When you’re being attacked from all sides, it’s difficult to stay in faith, but remember that God is always on your side, so mere flesh can’t do anything to you.
If God really keeps the tears you have cried in a bottle, isn’t that amazing? This means that He knows it when you are suffering.
Even when His word promises that you will have to endure persecution for living godly lives in Christ Jesus, He doesn’t take your real pains lightly.
The book that God has with a record of your deeds is called the Book of Remembrance or Book of Memory.
Everyone has their own such book in Heaven.
Your sufferings are one of the details recorded in this book. When it’s time for judgment before Jesus’ throne, these books will be opened to assess your rewards.
Just like David, when you respond in faith and hope in God amidst your sufferings, there are rewards stored up for you.
You can be encouraged that your current temporal pain results in an eternal pleasure.
Sufferings have an expiry date, but your eternal rewards last forever.
“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.” (Romans 8:16-18 WEB)
On that day when Jesus announces your rewards, you will be amazed that your sufferings in this present time resulted in such a great glory being bestowed to you. Jesus is a generous Rewarder!
