被蚊叮劃十字止痕？
朱先生：「聽說被蚊叮後在叮口上用指甲劃十字可以止痕，真的嗎？」

CheckCheckCin：被蚊叮後痕癢，是因為蚊子在我們的皮膚上吸血前會吐出唾液，這些唾液會刺激我們的免疫系統引發過敏反應，令皮膚紅腫及痕癢，用指甲在患處劃十字並沒有止痕作用，如果手指或指甲不乾淨，更可能令敏感情況加劇。
有蚊叮痕癢的話，可以先用肥皂水清洗，以及用金銀花煲水外洗患處，因為金銀花有清熱消暑及消炎作用，但注意蠶豆症患者不可使用。同時避免進食發物，例如蝦、蟹、鰻魚、貝類、鵝肉、雞蛋、茄子、竹筍、菇類等，這些食物易動風發癢，加重皮膚瘡瘍腫毒症狀。如果你非常惹蚊，留意自己是否濕熱或陰虛體質，因為蚊子偏愛體溫偏高、體味重、多汗、汗味重的人，改善體質有助防蚊。

蚊叮止痕外洗方
材料：金銀花10克、水1公升
做法：材料以中火煲30分鐘，放暖後以棉花浸濕印在痕癢位置即可。

Draw a cross ‘X’ on a mosquito bite to relieve the itch?

“I have heard that drawing an X on a mosquito bite using our fingernail can relieve the itch, is that true?”

CheckCheckCin: We feel itchy after a mosquito because the mosquito has fed on our blood and spat out saliva on our skin. The saliva will trigger our immune system and cause an allergic reaction, causing the skin to swell and itch.

Pressing our fingernail on to draw a cross on the mosquito bite will not relieve the itch. If our fingers or fingernails are not clean, it might even further cause the area to be more sensitive.

You may use soap water to clean the mosquito bite, and use water boiled with Japanese honeysuckle to wash the area, because Japanese honeysuckle can dissipate heat and has anti-inflammatory properties. Please take note that patients with Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PDD) should not opt for this method.

At the same time, avoid eating stimulating food such as prawn, crab, eel, shellfish, goose meat, eggplant, bamboo shoot and mushrooms, as they can easily stimulate wind pathogen to cause itch, and aggravate the skin condition. If you seem to attract mosquitoes, do check and see if your body has a damp-heat or Yin-deficient condition. Mosquitoes are drawn to human bodies that are slightly higher in temperature, with strong odor, sweat a lot and with odor, hence improving these conditions can help repel mosquitoes.

External rinse for mosquito repellent
Ingredients: 10g Honeysuckle, 1L water
Preparation: Cook all ingredients for 30 minute and use a thin towel or cotton pad to soak up medicine and gently pat on affected area after cool down.

In this video, we whipped up the Ultimate Singaporean Breakfast in Neo’s Kitchen. Since so many of you have requested an Economic Bee Hoon video, I decided to make it a challenge but with a twist. A traditional plate would consist of Bee Hoon/Egg Noodles with a bunch of sides like luncheon meat, eggs and stir-fried vegetables, with a healthy dollop of sambal. However, I came across OmniMeat, a plant-based alternative to your common meats, that offered OmniMeat Luncheon, an imitation luncheon meat. They also offered OmniMeat Strip, which is their equivalent to the sliced cuts of meat commonly used in stir-fries. There is a lucky draw for FairPrice gift vouchers, details are below!

For my challenge, I piled on at least 4 portions each of Bee Hoon and Fried Egg Noodles, together with 9 eggs and 3 packets worth of OmniMeat Luncheon onto my giant plate. My mum helped to cook the egg noodles and also stir-fried the OmniMeat Strip with some vegetables, which I added onto the platter. To round it off, I added a healthy serving of sambal.

The luncheon meat had an almost identical texture and colour to real luncheon meat and it would be difficult to tell the difference at a glance. Flavour-wise, it did taste different but not in a bad way. Luncheon meat normally tastes very salty and processed while OmniMeat Luncheon tasted “cleaner” and felt more like it was comprised of actual ground meat. The OmniMeat strips were pleasant and chewy but it was apparent that it was not meat in the flavour. However, it was far superior to most mock meats I have tried with a palatable taste and rich smoky flavour.

This was a straightforward challenge featuring one of Singapore’s most popular breakfast dishes, Economic Bee Hoon. Jazzed up with plant-based meat, an ever-growing trend that is supposed to be better for the environment, this challenge was healthier than most. OmniMeat Luncheon is certainly far healthier than any canned luncheon meat and would be a great addition to your kitchen. Do note that it requires cooking. If you are hosting for Chinese New Year, OmniMeat would be a great option to have in your spread, especially for vegetarian friends and family. OmniMeat also has a range of other Asian-inspired plant-based alternatives that would not be out of place at a Chinese New Year party. Spooky cute yet delicious! Easy to make 😉

I asked my daughter to draw ghost faces but she ended up drawing human-looking faces with hair and braids. And she is right that she says humans and ghosts exist together on Halloween 🎃

Maybe I melted the marshmallows too much?! Until marshmallows stick to the OREOs is okay. Whatever, they are stretchy, crunchy, and delicious 😋

Human Face Marshmallow OREOs (Hopefully Halloween Ghosts Recipe)

Difficulty: VERY Easy and FUN
Time: 15min
Number of servings: as many as you want

Ingredients:
marshmallows
OREOs
edible pen/chocolate pen

Directions:
1. Place marshmallows on OREOs.
2. Melt them in the oven or toaster oven for a minute just until the bottoms melt and stick together.
3. When they get cold, draw ghost faces with an edible pen (preferably for Halloween).
