โดย Pokemon Legends Arceus จะเป็นเกมแนวแอ็คชัน RPG Open World อย่างเต็มรูปแบบ ที่มีฉากหลังอยู่ในพื้นที่ Sinnoh ช่วงยุคศักดินาของญี่ปุ่น ที่เหล่า Pokemon จะเพ่นพ่านในโลกอย่างอิสระอย่างที่พวกมันต้องการ

ซึ่งโปเกมอนเริ่มต้นของภาคนี้คือ Cyndaquil, Oshawatt และ Rowlett ที่ทั้ง 3 ถูกนำมายัง Sinnoh โดยศาสตราจารย์คนใหม่ และผู้เล่นจะได้รับมอบหมายให้เก็บสะสม Pokédex แรกของโลกให้สำเร็จ ซึ่งตัวเกมแม้ว่าจะมีความเป็นแอ็คชันมากขึ้น แต่การต่อสู้ก็จะยังคงใช้ระบบ Turn-based เหมือนที่ผ่านมา
