[Recipe] Nothing beats having a comfortable dish like a risotto. And how about bringing it to the next level with abalone? Here, I made an indulgent abalone risotto with chicken broth instead cream which makes it not overly rich. Yet the creamy texture is there thanks to mozzarella cheese. This recipe calls for 2 cans of New Moon Australian Abalone, of which 2/3 goes into the rice. By sautéing the remaining 1 whole abalone with butter, you get to enjoy this risotto in varying textures. No salt is added here because the chicken broth contains salt.
Creamy Abalone Risotto
Ingredients (serves 3-4)
Risotto
2 Tb New Moon Cooking Oil
1 New Moon Premium Chicken Broth (400ml)
250g cooked rice ( I use New Moon Jasmine Fragrant Rice)
1 New Moon Australian Abalone (drained weight 120g), sliced
1 Yellow Onion, diced
4pcs whole Mili Champignons ( 1 can has 8pcs - use half and save the rest for stir-fry vegetables), sliced
3 stalk English Parsley, minced
75g Mozzarella Cheese
Black Pepper
Butter Grilled Abalone:
15g butter
2Tb mirin
1Tb sugar
1 Tb New Moon Abalone Sauce
1 New Moon Australian Abalone (120g)
Steps:
Sauté diced onion, followed by sliced champignons mushrooms and abalone in a saucepan
Add chicken broth and simmer on low heat.
Stir in cooked rice. Continue stirring until the broth has been absorbed by the rice.
Add in cheese. Stir till creamy.
Toss in minced parsley. Season with black pepper.
In another non-stick pan, melt butter and grill abalone on both sides. Add in mirin, sugar and abalone sauce. Cook till sauce thickens.
Assemble: place grilled abalone on the rice. drizzle the sauce and garnish with English parsley.

My family has been eating @newmoonsg Superrice for quite some time already! 🍚 This unique blend of black, red, brown and white rice is the perfect ratio for cooking using normal rice settings and there is no pre-soaking required! 👍🏻
.
We like the @newmoonsg superrice coz it is ultra-loaded with Antioxidants & it’s nutritious, while being high in dietary fibre and good source of protein! Yay to healthy living! 😋
.
I made the #hedgehog spikes with the @newmoonsg superrice, seasoned plain rice with @liloikanbilis mushroom powder (for natural food coloring & taste) and cut out the eyes with seaweed, nose & hands with cheese. ☺️ Little mouth and cheeks are made from ham & I added a sweet ribbon pick in to look cute 🎀

PART 04 - Traveling around the… table - marvelous exotic food in Tainan
Everybody knows Tainan is famous for unlimited number of snacks, night markets and traditional, special Tainan foods. But, what if somehow you want to take a break from that and want to try something truly exotic? Do you need to go to the airport and fly to another country? Well, that’s an option. But, don’t worry - there’s no need to look for your passport if you’re already in Tainan. Why? Because there are lots of mouth-watering dishes waiting for you right here in Tainan. Together we can explore a few of them. So are you ready?
Option number one: How about some Indian food?
瑪哈印度餐廳Maharaja Indian Restaurant
From time to time I crave some Indian food, and Maharaja is a good option. They have decorations that transports you to an Indian Palace, they play Bollywood music videos in the background and they have a solid menu - from Indian curries, kebabs, naan (Indian bread you can soak in sauces) and also typical drinks (mango lassi, Indian spiced teas. They also have starters, for example samosas - Indian fried dumplings. The food is really good, I got my favorite dishes including: palak paneer - spinach and cottage cheese sauce, chicken tikka masala, yellow masala lamb curry, chicken kebabs and more. All these delicious dishes were nicely washed with a mango lassi - Indian style of yogurt. Gotta admit - I loved it.
Option number two: Are you craving for some good Japanese food? Great - I have an excellent place just for you.
兩斤家廚房1.2KG Kitchen
Roasted beef steak, Pork fillet, Japanese bbq beef, cheese donburi, Japanese fried chicken (the difference between Taiwanese and Japanese style is that the one from Japan is juicier, Taiwanese style is usually crispier). You can also find hot pots and other dishes at 1.2KG. I love all the dishes - especially the steak.. I am usually a bit sceptical before ordering cheese in restaurants in Taiwan, but the bbq cheese donburi was truly delicious - hands down.
Apart from the tasty dishes, the interior of the restaurant is really stylish and the ambiance is great. You can really feel that the owner put lots of effort into it. You can take lots of great shots if you bring your camera along. The decoration is a bit of a fusion between Japanese and European styles. It feels really good :)
Option number three: Would you like to try the most famous south east asian cuisine here in Tainan? Let’s go Thai then!
泰味食足A Taste of Thailand
The place is well decorated and a cute elephant statue welcomes you from the street. I am always happy to eat some Thai food, and this restaurant made me happy as well.
Usually when I go to Thai restaurants I order my favorite meals: stir-fried spicy minced beef, shrimp pancake and green curry. They also have quite a selection of seafood dishes, steamed fish and steamed shrimps. I started with green papaya salad - it’s a healthy crispy dish full of veggies and unripe papaya. Yummy! Apart from that I tried the rest and I must say all were really good - but the spicy minced beef remains my favorite. If you are in Shanhua this restaurant is definitely a place to visit!
How about some dessert?
光芒果子.小旅行 義式冰淇淋Sunny Mango Gelato
Yujing district of Tainan is mostly famous for its mangoes. But there is way more to discover in that area. Apart from the gorgeous views you can also visit Yujing Old Street. One of the highlights of that place is a real gelato shop.
What is gelato? It’s Italian word that means “frozen” but most commonly it’s known as Italian ice cream. The difference between gelato and ice cream is very subtle - basically gelato is more icy and thick, ice cream is more creamy and soft. There is quite a selection of flavors - from classic ones (fruit, chocolate) to very special flavors (Sun Moon Lake tea, Taiwan beer flavor). Also, I believe the flavors change from time to time, so each time you come you can get some surprises. My favorite gelato was passion fruit, mango and sesame. But let’s be honest - everybody likes a different flavor, so the only way to find out which is your favorite is…. going to Sunny Mango Gelato!
Feel free to ask any questions that you have, feel free to share and tag friends that haven’t been to Tainan before or recently, and need to go there with you and… and…. and make sure you stay tuned because there are more stories coming soon!

McDonald's Japan started seasonal items for Tsukimi series today(9/2). Tsukimi is moon viewing festival traditionally for wishing good harvest in autumn. Apam balik (English: 'turnover pancake') is a type of griddle pancake common in Southeast Asia. It is usually sold at specialist roadside stalls throughout Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
The pancake's batter is made from a mixture of flour, eggs, sugar, baking soda, coconut milk and water. The batter is cooked upon a thick round iron frying pan in plenty of palm margarine to avoid it sticking to the pan. Then other ingredients are sprinkled as filling; the most common or traditional is crushed peanut granules with sugar and sweetcorn kernels (available from cans), but modern innovations such as chocolate sprinkles and cheddar cheese are also available. Then, the pancake is folded (hence the name: "turnover pancake") and cut into several pieces.
The texture of the apam balik can vary depending on the amount of batter and type of pan used, from one that is akin to a crispier form of crumpets to small thin light pancake shells that break when bitten (the latter is usually called apam balik nipis, 'thin apam balik').
The dish has been declared a heritage food by the Malaysian Department of National Heritage.
There is a Peranakan variant, the apom balik, that closely resembles the Indonesian Serabi.
The dessert is also known by various names depending on the region. Some of them are: Martabak Manis (lit: sweet murtabak); Terang Bulan, because of the big round pancake resembling the shape of a full moon prior to folding; Apam Pulau Pinang; Kue Bandung (in Semarang, Java and its surrounding areas) Kuih Haji (in certain areas), Min Chiang Kueh;
Hok Lo Pan; Ban Jian Kuih, or; Chin Loong Pau.

SHOCKING BLACK CREPE. Delicious ham, egg, bacon, and melted cheese crepe made with black batter.
Crêpes are made by pouring a wheat batter onto a frying pan or flat circular hot plate, often with a trace of butter or vegetable oil on the pan's surface. The batter is spread evenly over the cooking surface of the pan or plate either by tilting the pan or by distributing the batter with an offset spatula or trowel.
The consistency of the batter should not be too thick, nor should the pan be too hot. In either of these instances, the crêpe could be ruined with lumpiness or tears. Cooking may take 30 to 60 seconds until the cooked side looks like the surface of the moon, then it is turned over to cook the other side; one can flip it in the air by swinging the pan (air flipping).
Because the outside of the crêpe is more attractive, they are typically never served inside out.
Sweet crêpes are generally made with wheat flour, while savory crêpes are made with non-wheat flours such as buckwheat. Batters can also consist of other simple ingredients such as butter, milk, water, eggs, flour, salt, and sugar.
Common savoury fillings for crêpes served for lunch or dinner are cheese, ham, and eggs, ratatouille, mushrooms, artichoke (in certain regions), and various meat products. The fillings are commonly added to the center of the crêpe and served with the edges partially folded over the center.
When sweet, they can be eaten as part of breakfast or as a dessert. They can be filled and topped with various sweet toppings, often including Nutella spread, preserves, sugar (granulated or powdered), maple syrup, lemon juice, whipped cream, fruit spreads, custard, and sliced soft fruits or confiture.
