เกมเมอร์หลายคนน่าจะทราบกันอยู่แล้วว่า PlayStation 4 ไม่มีระบบ backward compatibility ที่สามารถนำแผ่นเกม PlayStation 3 หรือยุคก่อนหน้ามาเล่นผ่านเครื่อง PS4 ได้ แต่ล่าสุด มีแฮกเกอร์ค้นพบว่าในเครื่อง PS4 มีการซ่อนซอฟต์แวร์ Emulator สำหรับเล่นเกมของ PlayStation พร้อมระบุว่าซอฟต์แวร์ดังกล่าวได้พัฒนาโดย Sony อย่างเป็นทางการ
