If you’ve cycled down to Marina Bay from East Coast Park recently, you may have noticed a large oval structure with a beautiful green rooftop as you approached the Marina Bay golf course. That’s the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP), which officially opened yesterday.
The plant can desalinate 30 million gallons per day of potable water. It is also our first plant that can treat both seawater and freshwater. When there’s enough rain, the plant will draw fresh water from Marina Reservoir, which takes less energy than treating seawater.
The KMEDP strengthens our water security and contributes to a sustainable future for Singapore, especially with climate change. Still, we must continue to save water whenever we can, and make every drop count. – LHL
