🎵April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), a global celebration to recognize jazz as America’s extraordinary heritage to the world. Every year since 2001 the National Museum of American History creates a new poster tribute to a jazz legend. The 2021 official poster features pianist, singer, songwriter, storyteller, and civil rights activist Nina Simone to highlight women’s impact and contribution to jazz.
Nina Simone, dubbed the “High Priestess of Soul”, was one of the most gifted pianists and vocalists of her generation, playing a broad spectrum of genres across jazz, blues, soul, classical, R&B, pop, gospel and world music. Simone received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2000 and was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Her 1964 Carnegie Hall performance of “Mississippi Goddam” was selected as culturally and historically significant by the Library of Congress in 2018 and included for preservation on the National Recording Registry. architecture in the #Modernism , #Brutalism , #PostModernism periods were internationally - not yet being recognised for their historical and cultural values. A lot of the heritage validation systems in the world define “heritage” as something with at least 100 years of history. However, we all know that everything in our world now are developing in a rate that grows exponentially. A whole era could be replaced within 50, or even 20 years. It’s time for us to study and appreciate the rapidly changing architecture and culture behind our “current” world.
