Ryohei Kato: "It has been an enjoyable Olympics"
「楽しいオリンピックだった」
"I changed my dismount from a D-value to a F-value, but I was too focused on that and I was sloppy on my other skills.
Of course I’m not happy about my placing, but I was able to perform this 6.8 difficulty routine for the first time in competition. Now after everything, I think it was a fun Olympics.
I was extremely happy to win Team Gold, but I didn’t do well in the Individual All-Around, so I’ll keep working hard. I’ll set goals and work towards them in the next four years."
(T/N: Today was the final day of Artistic Gymnastics in Rio - Ryohei increased his D from 6.6 to 6.8 for the PB finals with an upgraded dismount! He scored 15.233 and placed 7th in a fantastic final that saw Oleg Verniaiev take the Gold with 16.041. While the guys haven't had the most perfect event finals, they certainly achieved their biggest goal - the incredible Team Gold, once again stamping their mark as the top team in the world <3 Congrats also to Kenzo Shirai for taking the Bronze in the Vault final yesterday, his first major VT medal! 日本チームの皆さん、お疲れ様でした!)

A couple of Ryohei updates on the 2013 World Championships:
1) Ryohei has a new Still Rings element submitted for evaluation by the FIG. It has been described to be a D value element consisting of a "Back uprise to V Cross (2 Sec.)".
Video of Ryohei performing the element at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Tokyo earlier this year: http://tiny.cc/xai53w
More information on the new men's elements submitted for evaluation here: http://tiny.cc/j4g53w
I believe this is the Rings skill he said he was training in this article: http://tiny.cc/boi53w
2) Ryohei appears to be a good condition. According to the coverage of the Men's subdivision 4 podium training session, "Ryohei Kato (JPN) looked fit and strong on floor, by sticking his landing on a triple twist. He performed a clean routine on pommel horse. He also appeared to be great on parallel bars, showing great executions. He will be in contention to reach the all-around final. Kohei Uchimura himself said that Kato is the next big star from Japan!".

Let's continue to pray for Ryohei's health, safety and success through the course of the World Championships! 凌平くん、がんばってください! ^^
