【LifeinTaiwan is looking for an intern】
Hello everyone,
I love being a Youtuber. I love the freedom it gives me and appreciate the connection it gives me to my ever-so-supportive audience. I began the channel 4 years ago and never imagined it would be more than a small hobby or side project that I would do in my spare time in order to allow my son in South Africa, William, to watch his Daddy sharing his Life in Taiwan with him and anyone else who wants to watch.
I have been so blessed that although the channel and myself have had some ups and downs over the years, the channel has grown to a size where I feel that I am now able to offer somebody the opportunity to join me and share the journey I am taking through the Youtube world. For 4 years, over countless hours I have created 300 videos and grown to the channel to a quarter of a million subscribers all by myself. Video conception, writing, planning, producing, filming, editing, subtitling and re-editing have all been done by myself with the occasional welcome assistance from friends who have stepped in when I have required help. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point.
However, it has recently become apparent that I need help. The constant strive for ideas and pressure to create interesting, watchable videos has pushed me to the limit of what one person can do in order to provide the best content for the viewers here in Taiwan and around the world. This is in addition to the fact that as a foreigner in Taiwan, I often find myself needing the help of a Taiwanese person to prevent making some basic mistakes that would otherwise go unnoticed.
Therefore, in order to show you a higher level of content and better quality videos, I have decided to invite an intern to join me! 💪

“I bend therefore I don’t break.”
Yeah yeah yeah, it’s such a common quote that you’ll see in many many #instagramyoga posts. Usually you’ll see this quote next to a major #backbend photo. Many likes are clicked. Everyone applauds to that mind boggling #asana. And comments like 😱👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼 are left.
But is this yoga? It is very easy to take the face value of a quote and stick it next to a picture and have some quasi philosophical moment or sharing. I mean, how often have you seen a well choreographed picture or selfie, with a caption of some totally unrelated nature? It’s easy to talk the talk. But as yoga teachers, we at least need to understand the true meaning of the talk before talking about it.
Pictured here is a #vrksasana #treepose with a backbend variation. A tree that can bend can withstand strong winds. But the tree can still break if it bends too much - so does our body. To train to be more flexible is not because we don’t want to break. Being flexible is more about the mindset - the ability to change in any 👎🏼💩🤒👺🤬 circumstances.
What are some of the most misused quotes you have seen? Let me know in comments below.

For this episode, we headed back to No Signboard Seafood, this time at the Esplanade, to demolish a $1000 Seafood Mee Goreng Challenge! As a belated birthday treat, Sean has again offered to pay for my meal at No Signboard Seafood, this time only allowing Mee Goreng. Naturally, we loaded up the Mee Goreng with the most delectable toppings that No Signboard Seafood has to offer to push the cost to over $1000, making it possibly the most expensive plate of Mee Goreng ever!
No Signboard Seafood specialises in Chinese cuisine, with a focus on seafood, especially the world-famous Chilli Crab. This particular outlet at Esplanade is unique in that it has some Western cuisine available like Boston Lobster Scrambled Eggs with Caviar and pasta dishes. We had to go with Mee Goreng, which is a Malay-style fried noodle dish with a flexible bunch of proteins and vegetables added, tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce.
For my challenge, I ordered 10 servings of Mee Goreng, 3 Whole Boston Lobsters, a bunch of Scallops, 2 Wagyu Steaks and a large ball of Caviar. The staff masterfully plated this feast onto my giant plate, forming a beautiful array. The mee goreng was sweeter and less spicy than most mee gorengs you would find in Singapore, loaded with tofu and shrimp. It was delicious enough to eat on its own and had a deep wok hei aroma to it. The lobsters were plump and juicy, with the tail meat coming off the shell with almost no resistance. They were expectedly sweet and tender, being freshly cooked from the live lobster tanks on-site.
The scallops were stir-fried in XO sauce, pairing the naturally sweet scallops with the strong umami flavour of the sauce, while the steaks were cooked to medium-rare perfection and rich with a deep “beefy” flavour. Finally, the caviar was a surprising addition to mee goreng, usually eaten on its own or on toast with its rich salty flavour. However, it went exceedingly well with the mee goreng as each sweet and savoury bite of the mee goreng was met with pops of salty explosions, complementing one another rather spectacularly.
This meal was so good that I could hardly call it a challenge and I thankfully enjoyed my birthday dinner. No Signboard Seafood also offers a host of other Chinese-Singaporean cuisine, including crabs cooked in a multitude of ways and many fish options. Do check out No Signboard Seafood for their excellent take on Mee Goreng and their classic dishes!
